Patrick Diegnan Jr.

Senator Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. (D) represents the 18th Legislative District and is running for re-election. Senator Diegnan was born and raised in South Plainfield and holds a J.D. and a Bachelor of Arts from Seton Hall University. While serving as Deputy Speaker and Parliamentarian in the Assembly, he was appointed to the Senate in 2016 after Peter J. Barnes III was appointed to New Jersey Superior Court. 

Senator Diegnan has sponsored legislation urging the governor to join the U.S. Climate Alliance and led the fight to require stricter regulations for childhood lead poison testing. He earned a 94% on New Jersey LCV’s 2017 Environmental Scorecard.
