Gary Schaer

Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D) is running for re-election to the 36th Legislative District. He attended American University and majored in political science. He resides in Passaic County, where he remains on the City Council as the council president. As the first Orthodox Jew to serve In the New Jersey Legislature, Assemblyman Schaer is one of the highest-ranking members of the Assembly. He serves as a deputy speaker and as Chairman of the Budget Committee.

Assemblyman Schaer sponsored an important environmental bill appropriating money from the state General Fund to help mitigate lead-based paint issues in New Jersey. For his pro-environmental voting record, Assemblyman Schaer received a 95% on New Jersey LCV’s 2017 Environmental Scorecard
