TRENTON – The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (New Jersey LCV), the first statewide environmental organization to endorse Phil Murphy for Governor, congratulates Ambassador Murphy and his running mate, Sheila Oliver, on their decisive victory Tuesday night.

“The environment played a major role in this election, and we worked hard for many months to elect a governor who is committed to restoring New Jersey to a position of national environmental leadership,” said Ed Potosnak, executive director of New Jersey LCV. “Murphy pledged to put New Jersey on a path to achieving 100 percent clean energy by 2050. A win for the Murphy/Oliver ticket is a win for our environment.”

Murphy vowed – in his words – to have a steel backbone to push back against the environmental assault coming out of Washington, D.C.

The New Jersey LCV Victory Fund – the state’s only environmental Super PAC – and the New Jersey LCV PAC contributed a record $401,000 to elect Murphy and other environmental champs.

“Phil Murphy impressed the New Jersey LCV Board early on with his grasp of the state’s critical environmental challenges, and well-formulated plans to address our most serious issues,” said Kelly Mooij, the board’s political chair. “We look forward to working with the new administration to ensure that New Jersey is a great place to live and work for current and future generations.”

Murphy promised to rejoin the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which Gov. Christie withdrew from; committed to jumpstarting solar and wind generation for their twin environmental and economic benefits, and to appoint qualified residents to the Highlands and Pinelands councils.

"We were proud to endorse Phil Murphy back in February because he understands the importance of clean air, safe drinking water, and open space for all of New Jersey's families. It is time for New Jersey to once again become a leader on clean energy and green jobs and that is why the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters enthusiastically supported Murphy,” said Debbie Mans, New Jersey LCV Board Chair.
