New Jersey LCV and Princeton Hydro Work to Help Lessen the Impact of Increased Flooding in New Jersey
TRENTON – The following statement is from Henry Gajda, Policy Director, New Jersey LCV regarding the recent flooding in New Jersey and the need to establish stormwater utilities to pay for green infrastructure.
“New Jersey towns throughout the state are experiencing extreme flooding due to the increase in stormwater from the recent severe weather events. The reality is that this is our new normal as we continue to suffer from the impacts of climate change, hurting our families and businesses,” said Henry Gajda, Policy Director, New Jersey LCV. “Investing in community-based green infrastructure can help manage some of the most pervasive impacts of unmanaged stormwater and flooding. Stormwater utilities provide a way for towns and municipalities to pay for these critical investments. Due to their practicality, over 1800 stormwater utilities exist in 41 states, but there are none in New Jersey. We need to catch up.”
