New Jersey LCV Applauds BPU Announcement of a Straw Proposal for Community Solar

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, regarding the announcement today by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) of a straw proposal for a permanent community solar program in New Jersey.

"We couldn’t be happier that the NJ BPU is proposing to move forward with support and investment for community solar. A permanent community solar program that is focused on equity will bring clean energy access to the low-and moderate-income neighborhoods which have been overlooked for too long. Families who live in homes that could not support solar infrastructure, apartments, condominiums, and other shared spaces will be able to save on their energy costs through solar energy,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “A long history of racial residential segregation has deprived many people of color from safe, secure, energy-efficient housing. By making a commitment to community solar, the state is taking a stand on energy equity and environmental justice as we move toward our 100% clean energy future. In addition to the savings community solar brings, it can also provide family-sustaining jobs for those who want to transition into new careers in the clean energy economy. We will be closely following and participating in the stakeholder process to ensure this is the strongest program possible.”
