NEW JERSEY LCV APPLAUDS BPU STUDY CONFIRMING THAT NEW JERSEY RATEPAYERS WILL SAVE MONEY AS WE TRANSITION TO CLEAN ENERGY

TRENTON – The following statement is from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) ratepayer study, which indicates that making the move to renewable energy could save residential consumers money primarily by electrifying building-heating systems and switching to electric vehicles, two major components of the state’s Energy Master Plan.

“This is a day for celebration. The framework for a new green economy has been established in Governor Murphy’s Energy Master Plan (EMP), and this study by the BPU confirms what we always knew, switching to electric vehicles and building electrification (like heat pumps) is not only good for our health and our climate – but we are certain it's good for our wallets as well,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “As we transition to a clean energy economy, we need to make sure we provide low income families financial support to adopt energy efficient appliances, heaters and air conditioners, and transportation to ensure they benefit from the cost savings of the clean energy transition. Recent state incentives like electric vehicle rebates and supportive programs included in the proposed Inflation Reduction Act should also aim to target low - and moderate-income families that have, all too often, missed out on the benefits of our clean-energy programs.”
