NEW JERSEY LCV APPLAUDS LONG AWAITED SENATE CONFIRMATION OF PINELANDS NOMINEES

TRENTON – New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Executive Director, Ed Potosnak, issued the following statement regarding the Senate’s confirmation of three new commissioners for the Pinelands Commission, after four years of Senate inaction on Governor Murphy’s nominations to the Pinelands:

We are thrilled to see that the dying wish of my dear friend, late Commissioner Candace Ashmun, one of the forces behind the foundation of the Pinelands Commission, has finally been fulfilled and that Theresa Lettman has successfully been confirmed to succeed her on the Pinelands Commission.

Lettman will bring critical expertise to the Pinelands Commission, and together with the other nominees, Davon McCurry and Laura Matos, mark a critical first step to restore proper functioning to a body responsible for protecting one of New Jersey’s most valuable environmental treasures. We look forward to working with the entire slate of nominations to help them become Pinelands champions.

Now that these nominees are confirmed, we will double down on our work next session to ensure Governor Murphy and Senate leaders bring the Pinelands Commission back to full strength so that it can properly carry out its essential duty of protecting New Jersey’s most valuable environmental treasure by filling remaining vacancies and replacing Chris Christie holdovers.
