NEW JERSEY LCV APPLAUDS SENATE COMMITTEE APPROVAL OF BILL TO INCLUDE CLIMATE-CHANGE THREATS IN STATE HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director New Jersey LCV, regarding a Senate bill to include climate-change threats in the New Jersey Hazard Mitigation Plan.

“The best time to act to build a more resilient New Jersey and protect residents by adapting our disaster plans to account for the changing climate is yesterday. We’ve known for a long while that our state is feeling the effects of climate change, and we must ensure our disaster plans account for this reality. We can no longer wait for devastating superstorms like Sandy and Ida to take action. In order to best protect our families and businesses, we need to plan ahead, and this legislation will help us be prepared by including the realities of climate change,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “This bill is a step in the right direction, especially for those in our most vulnerable communities in areas we know are unsafe and feeling the effects of climate change. We commend Senator Greenstein for sponsoring this urgent legislation and we look forward to it moving through the full legislative process.”
