New Jersey calls on Trump ally Ciattarelli oppose Trump plan for oil drilling off the Jersey Shore

TRENTON, NJ - New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Ed Potosnak has issued the following statement in response to press reports that the Trump administration is developing plans for offshore oil drilling off the Jersey Shore:

Jack Ciattarelli must join Mikie Sherrill in opposing Donald Trump’s plan to drill for oil off the Jersey Shore. This move threatens New Jersey’s miles of beaches — a precious ecological resource and also the bedrock of a tourism industry that supports thousands of jobs up and down the state.

With this latest move, Trump is once again sacrificing working families to benefit his billionaire donors.

Ciattarelli, who has an abysmal lifetime environmental score of 38%, stood idly by as Trump canceled the Gateway project, threatening our state with gridlock and economic calamity. This latest decision will wreak havoc on the Shore to pump up the profits of oil and gas CEOs.

In this critical moment in our state’s history, New Jersey can’t afford a shill for Trump. We need a proven leader like Mikie Sherrill to stand up for New Jersey and against Trump’s MAGA agenda, which threatens our public health, our environment and our livelihoods.
