NEW JERSEY LCV OPPOSES EFFORTS TO PRIVATIZE LIBERTY STATE PARK

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, regarding a new bill introduced in the legislature that would provide $250 million for the development of long-term plans and capital projects for recreational, athletic, and cultural programs at Liberty State Park.

“It’s concerning to see this new legislation introduced that appears to be on the fast track when the Liberty State Park Protection Act has failed to be enacted into law. I fear it’s smoke and mirrors for the privatization of the people’s park,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “A bill like this should only follow after the Liberty State Park Protection Act is passed by the legislature and signed into law by the Governor. We don’t want to help for profit businesses develop projects that undermine public access and the natural beauty of the park, like expanding a millionaire’s golf course.”
