New Jersey LCV Powers Candidates to Victory up and Down the Ballot
Powerful environmental organization was the first to endorse Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mikie Sherrill and several targeted legislative district candidates who prevailed on primary day
The New Jersey League of Conservation voter’s comprehensive campaign helped power pro-environment candidates to resounding victories up and down the ballot in Tuesday’s primary elections.
New Jersey LCV was the first environmental group and non-labor organization to endorse Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mikie Sherrill this past winter and worked to put 17 out of 19 endorsed candidates for General Assembly over the top in their primary election.
Undergirding this effort was a $300,000 comprehensive election program that supported Sherrill and pro-environment legislative candidates. This investment included four rounds of mail in support of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for Governor, reaching more than 35,000 households in key counties including: Essex, Hudson, Union, Bergen, Monmouth, Mercer, and Middlesex; direct contributions to candidate campaigns, door to door canvassing, and text messages to New Jersey LCV members. New Jersey LCV also launched a 15-second digital ad campaign targeting Essex, Hudson, Union and Middlesex counties – resulting in over 2 million recorded impressions across YouTube, pre-rolls and targeted connected television platforms.
“We were proud to have put it all on the line to power pro-environment candidates up and down the ballot to victory, starting with Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mikie Sherrill and environmental champions for the General Assembly,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey LCV. “At a time when our environment is under attack from Donald Trump and his billionaire donors in Washington, it’s more important than ever that we have bold candidates in Trenton who are prepared to advance protections for our clean air and drinking water and to build a 21st century 100% clean energy economy to reduce air pollution, fight climate change, create good local jobs, and lower energy costs for working families. With the Party Lines gone, it was more important than ever to advance aur comprehensive elections program to show voters the stakes in this election, for their pocketbooks, for the economy and for our planet. We will bring this same determination to bear in November to inaugurate a new era of strong environmental policies in Trenton.”
New Jersey LCV was thrilled to see 16 out of 19 of our endorsed candidates win nomination in key legislative districts and looks forward to a continued strong partnership to protect our environment for future generations.
