New Jersey LCV Responds to BPU Plan to Slow Ratepayer Increases

TRENTON, NJ – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, regarding the New Jersey Board of Utilities (BPU) efforts discussed at a meeting today for rate mitigation and deferment and other opportunities for rate stabilization and savings.

“We know the hottest summer months are on the way, and with climate change, it is only going to get hotter. As the administration works to slow the impact of rising utility rates on New Jersey's working families caused by the regional grid operators' failure to connect clean energy projects to the grid, which not only are cheaper, but would drive down rates, we urge the administration to take a long-term approach and solve the real problems. As long as New Jersey relies on dirty oil and gas to power our grid, residents will continue to face higher and more volatile energy bills,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey LCV. “The solution is clear—clean energy. Solar is already the cheapest source of electricity, and if more of our power came from clean sources like solar our energy bills would drop across the board. Investing in renewable energy isn’t just good for the climate—it improves public health, lowers pollution, creates good local jobs, and protects us from fossil fuel price shocks. A clean energy future is not only possible—it’s essential for affordability, resilience, and equity.”
