New Jersey LCV Responds to State of Emergency for Flooding Forecast throughout the State

TRENTON, NJ – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, regarding the expected storms and flooding predicted today following an extreme heat wave.

“Today’s forecast of more flooding, on top of an extreme heat wave and devastating flooding earlier this month, is yet another sad reminder that climate change as a result of human activity is not only here, but it’s accelerating. Since the Industrial Revolution global temperatures have been on the rise, but if we put our hearts and minds to it we can still prevent the worst of what could come.  We saved the Bald Eagle from demise by eliminating pollution and we can do it again to save our communities and lives from climate change.  New Jersey is on the front lines, facing back-to-back climate-fueled disasters threatening our homes, health, and economy. Outdated stormwater infrastructure can no longer keep up with this new reality. To protect our communities and prepare for the future, we must codify into law New Jersey’s goal of 100% Clean Energy by 2035 and invest in forward-thinking, equitable solutions. That includes strong NJPACT REAL Rules to protect our vulnerable shore communities, a just transition to clean energy to mitigate climate change, and stormwater utilities to manage runoff and reduce flooding, and. These floods are no longer isolated events—they are the new normal. New Jersey must be ready.”

Ed Potosnak is available for interviews to discuss the dangerous flooding caused by the extreme weather from climate change. Contact Michelle Peal at (908) 313-4178 or michelle.peal@njlcv.org.
