NEW JERSEY LCV SUPPORTS SENATE BILL TO SPUR PURCHASE OF ELECTRIC SCHOOL BUSES

TRENTON: The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, regarding Senate Bill S759 that requires the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to develop and implement an electric school bus program, which would provide $15 million the first year and $15 million annually in the subsequent two years in grant funding for school districts to purchase electric buses.

“Just this week, New Jersey LCV unveiled our Common Agenda for the Environment, and our second priority focuses on the transportation sector, and specifically, on the need to electrify our public-school bus fleets. These heavy-duty, diesel-burning fleets contribute significantly to localized air pollution that leads to disproportionate health burdens in Black and Brown communities,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “This bill delivers the action we need to set the stage for further electrification of our 11,000 school buses. We’re pleased that the Senate Transportation Committee, in a bipartisan fashion, approved S759, and we look forward to continuing to work with Senator Diegnan to get this bill across the finish line.”
