New Jersey LCV Responds to Extreme Flooding throughout the State and Declared state of Emergency
TRENTON, NJ – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, regarding the declared state of emergency by the governor due to extreme flooding throughout most of the state.
“Tonight, is yet another stark reminder that New Jersey is on the front lines of climate change. Our warming climate is fueling more destructive storms and dangerous flooding, and our communities are paying the price. Outdated infrastructure simply can’t keep up with this new reality. If we want to protect our neighborhoods, our drinking water, and our economy, we must invest in modern, equitable flood mitigation. This includes everything from green infrastructure to stronger protections for our most vulnerable areas. We are also a strong supporter of local municipalities, creating stormwater utilities to fund critical stormwater infrastructure to prevent the catastrophes we’re seeing today. We can’t continue to treat these floods as one-off disasters—they are the new normal, and New Jersey must be ready.”
Ed Potosnak is available for interviews to discuss the dangerous flooding caused by the extreme weather from climate change. Contact Michelle Peal at (908) 313-4178 or michelle.peal@njlcv.org.
