New Jersey LCV Hails Historic Swearing-in of Environmental Champions

Today, as the 22nd New Jersey Legislature is officially sworn into office, New Jersey LCV is celebrating the arrival of a historic number of pro-environment legislators. With a clear mandate from voters to prioritize action on clean energy to lower costs for working families, the organization is looking forward to an era of bold leadership alongside Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill.

New Jersey LCV Executive Director Ed Potosnak released the following statement:

“Today marks a transformative moment for the Garden State. We are thrilled to hail the swearing-in of a historic number of pro-environment legislators who understand that protecting our natural resources is not just important for our climate — it’s essential for a more prosperous state that works for all New Jerseyans. Voters have sent a clear message: they want leaders who will fight for their health and their future.

We look forward to working hand-in-hand with these legislative champions, including the 46 New Jersey LCV endorsees, and Governor-elect Sherrill to turn New Jersey into a true national leader in environmental policy. By working together, we will harness the power of clean energy to lower skyrocketing electricity costs and create high-quality local jobs that cannot be outsourced.

This leadership is more critical now than ever. At a time when Donald Trump is rolling back essential federal environmental protections, New Jersey must step up. We must ensure that our families’ health is protected and that every person — regardless of their zip code — can breathe clean air and drink safe water. We are ready to work with the new legislature to meet this historic moment and build a cleaner, fairer and more prosperous New Jersey for generations to come.”
