New Jersey LCV Issues ‘A’ Grade for Governor Sherrill’s First 100 Days, Applauds Bold Action on Clean Energy and Water

TRENTON, NJ – Marking the first 100 days of the Sherrill administration, the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters today released a report card awarding Governor Mikie Sherrill an “A” for her swift and decisive environmental leadership.

From Day One, the Governor has demonstrated that protecting New Jersey’s natural resources is inseparable from her mission to lower costs for working families and defend the state against attacks by an out-of-control Trump administration.

“Governor Sherrill came out of the gate strong, proving she is a leader who delivers on her promises,” said Allison McLeod, interim New Jersey LCV Executive Director. “By prioritizing clean energy and water infrastructure, while fighting back hard against federal attempts to undermine our environmental standards, she has set a new national standard for state leadership. Her administration’s approach demonstrates that strong environmental leadership also increases economic opportunities and lowers costs for working families.”

Lowering Prices Through Clean Energy
Governor Sherrill’s first 100 days were defined by a strong approach on clean energy that directly addresses the state’s affordability crisis. Key accomplishments include:

  • Day One Executive Action: Signed orders to freeze utility bills and open requests for proposals for large-scale solar and battery storage, ensuring a more reliable and cheaper energy supply.
  • Fighting Back Against Federal Rollbacks: Filed suit to stop the repeal of the federal endangerment finding and removing proposed fossil fuel projects from public agendas, prioritizing the protection of our waters, air quality, and public health.
  • Grid Modernization: Initiated reforms to streamline permitting for clean energy projects, reducing the red tape that often delays the deployment of affordable, renewable power to the grid.

Protecting Our Open Space and Drinking Water
Governor Sherrill has also made significant strides in ensuring safe drinking water, a top priority for her first 100 days:

  • Lead Remediation: Proposed a new rule to protect New Jersey families from the threat posed by copper and lead pipes and supported legislation that requires disclosure of lead drinking water to renters. and supported legislation.
  • NJPACT Implementation: Implementing rules strengthening protections against sea-level rise and extreme weather, improving the safety of at-risk communities while also reducing rebuilding costs after the next serious storm and delivering lower insurance prices.

Fighting Federal Rollbacks
The Sherrill administration has positioned New Jersey as a primary line of defense against Trump’s unprecedented attacks on our environment:

  • The BRIC Lawsuit: New Jersey co-led a coalition of states in a successful legal challenge to protect the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program, ensuring critical federal funding remains available for local flood mitigation and resilience projects.

“We are looking forward to working with the Sherrill administration as they build on this early momentum, particularly as we expand our focus on additional environmental areas,” McLeod said. “Good environmental policy is good for our health, our communities, and our wallets. Governor Sherrill’s first 100 days have proven that we can lower costs for working families and grow our local businesses while building a greener, more resilient future.”
