New Jersey LCV Responds to Nor’ Easter and Flooding Forecast throughout the State
TRENTON, NJ – The following is a statement from Allison McLeod, Interim Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, regarding the expected storms and flooding predicted to hit the state.
“Another major storm is bearing down on New Jersey, with the threat of heavy rain, strong winds and flooding beginning Friday and continuing through the weekend. We need strong NJ PACT REAL rules and investments in resilient infrastructure, which are critical to protecting our communities, our health and our economy.
After repeated flooding and extreme weather this summer, we’re seeing the growing costs of a changing climate, not only in damage to homes and infrastructure, but in the rising burden on families and communities. New Jersey must continue moving toward clean energy to reduce carbon pollution and slow the impacts of climate change.
We cannot prevent every storm, but we can prepare our communities for what’s coming and reduce the pollution driving climate change. That means upgrading outdated infrastructure to better manage flooding, protecting vulnerable communities, and investing in equitable, forward-thinking—long-term solutions.
These storms are a reminder that New Jersey must act now—both to prepare for a changing climate and to build a cleaner, more resilient future.”
Allison McLeod is available for interviews to discuss the dangerous flooding caused by the extreme weather from climate change. Contact Michelle Peal at (908) 313-4178 or michelle.peal@njlcv.org.
