New Jersey LCV Statement on Potential Assembly Override of Sham "Dark Money" Bill

TRENTON, NJ – Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, released the following statement today on A1524/S1500, which hides corporations raises campaign contribution limits and unevenly requires new onerous reporting:

"The problem with this sham bill is it forces onerous requirements on civil rights, environmental, and other nonprofit groups, resulting in the marginalization of the voices of everyday New Jerseyans. It would clear the way for corporate interests, government contractors, and others to go unchecked without the same disclosure requirements. It will further tilt the public policy playing field in favor of billionaires and corporate cronies.

Transparency is a key component of a thriving democracy and the New Jersey Assembly’s push for an override vote is about prioritizing donations from corporations over the voices of our voters. New Jersey LCV stands with civil rights groups such as ACLU, Garden State Equality, and Planned Parenthood in strong opposition of this politically-motivated bill and condemns the action of the Assembly to push for an override of Governor Murphy’s critical amendments to make full transparency a key component in New Jersey’s democracy."

New Jersey League of Conservation Voters is a non-partisan organization whose mission is to elect environmental champions, hold public officials accountable, and support laws which protect our environment and improve the quality of people’s lives.
